3 Dimensions is an approved independent special school for pupils aged 7 to 25, providing education for Key Stage 2 up to Secondary and post 16 with or without Education, Health and Care Plans or Statements of Educational Needs with:

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental health Needs (SEMH) previously known as
  • Behavioural, Emotional and Social  Difficulties (BESD)
  • Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
  • Attachment Disorder
  • Learning Difficulties
  • Dyspraxia

3 Dimensions school has been accepted as an approved independent special school and its details are published on Section 41 Secretary of State Approved List.

This means that 3 Dimensions School can now be considered alongside other approved schools and institutions when local authorities publish the offer of support available to children and young people with a Statement of Special Educational Needs and/or an Education, Health and Care Plan.

All institutions on the approved list have a reciprocal duty to co-operate with the local authority on arrangements for children and young people with SEN/EHCP, and to have regard to the statutory guidance in the SEN and disability code of practice: 0 to 25 years.

The Children and Families Act 2014 also gives parents and young people the right to express a preference for “approved” independent specialist provision when their EHC plan is being agreed and completed. Under section 38 of the Act, if an EHC plan names a maintained school or academy, FE college, non-maintained special school or approved Section 41 independent special institution, the local authority must secure a place at that institution and the institution must admit the pupil or student if a place is available.

Our Local Offer page has more information on the support available to children and young people with a Statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) in Somerset or Devon.

3 Dimensions School is accredited by the National Autistic Society for the quality of its provision. NAS Accreditation is a highly regarded quality standard and recognises the outstanding work the school undertakes in delivering an educational curriculum to pupils with autism spectrum disorder and other related communication difficulties.

Following a re-inspection in February 2016, 3 Dimensions School has been accredited for a further three years until 2019.
